Math: This week we continue chapter 6, Time.
Timed Tests: We will continue taking timed tests each week. The students are doing a great job. Start practicing the facts listed below. Beginning this week we will have a subtraction timed test on Tuesday and an addition timed test on Thursday.
For subtraction, we will start with 20 problems in 4 minutes and we will be subtracting 0.
For addition, we will have complete 50 problems in 3 minutes and 30 seconds..

short vowel blends: sho, stru, squi
long vowel blends: cha, ste
special sounds: ong in strong, ar in far, unk in trunk, ank in sank, wa in wasp kn in knife, le in puzzle, ing in singing, oo and ed in looked
spell these words: no new words
We will practice these in class every day!
Social Sciences: We will learn about plants and animals unit this week.
Reading: Don't forget to read your books on Wednesday night and be ready for a test on Thursday! :)
Spelling: Beginning this week we will have 15 spelling words and 5 bonus words. We will have a spelling test every Friday. Students will write these words when I call them out. This week five bonus words will be added to the list. Students should learn the 15 spelling words first. For a challenge, they can also learn the five bonus words. All students will take the bonus portion of the test. For each bonus word spelled correctly, the student will get 1 extra point on the test. There is no penalty for spelling a bonus word incorrectly.

Bonus Words: says, spring, summer, autumn, tomorrow
Bible: We will have a Bible verse each week. Students will say the verse to me.
Bible Verse: Review - No Verse this week.
Handwriting: We will continue learning how to form the letters. This week we will learn U, V
Creative Writing: Students will continue to practice writing complete sentences using capital letters at the beginning and periods at the end. I will introduce question marks this week. We will continue learning the parts of a sentence. We will be writing super sentences. All sentences should have these four parts:
Begin with a capital letter.
End with a punctuation mark.
Make sense.
Be written neatly.
They will write sentences with their spelling words, and write in their journals daily. We will write about plants, animals, and Martin Luther King, Jr.
