Phonics: We will have a Phonics test each Friday. Students will be expected to write the following:
short vowel blends: wa, bru, thre
long vowel blends: spi, dra
special sounds: alk in talk, all in fall, scr in scrape, spr in spring, tr in treat, br and igh in bright, igh in night, ing in singing, sh in sheep, gl, or, and y in glory
spell these words: no new words
We will practice these in class every day!
Social Sciences: We will finish learning about Veteran's Day and start our Thanksgiving unit this week.
Reading: Don't forget to read your books on Thursday night and be ready for your test Friday! :)
Spelling: Beginning this week we will have 15 spelling words and 5 bonus words. We will have a spelling test every Friday. Students will write these words when I call them out. This week five bonus words will be added to the list. Students should learn the 15 spelling words first. For a challenge, they can also learn the five bonus words. All students will take the bonus portion of the test. For each bonus word spelled correctly, the student will get 1 extra point on the test. There is no penalty for spelling a bonus word incorrectly.

Bonus Words: choice, hoist, Saturday, January, February (days of the week and months of the year must begin with a capital letter to get credit)
Bible: We will have a Bible verse each week. Students will say the verse to me.
Bible Verse: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight." Proverbs 3:5-6
Handwriting: We will continue learning how to form the letters. This week we will learn O, P, Q
Creative Writing: Students will continue to practice writing complete sentences using capital letters at the beginning and periods at the end. I will introduce question marks this week. We will continue learning the parts of a sentence. We will be writing super sentences. All sentences should have these four parts:
Begin with a capital letter.
End with a punctuation mark.
Make sense.
Be written neatly.
They will write sentences with their spelling words, and write in their journals daily. We will write about Thanksgiving and make cards for the veterans..
