Math: This week continue chapter 5. It is all about shapes and fractions.
Timed Tests: We will continue taking timed tests each week. The students are doing a great job. Start practicing the fact listed below. Beginning this week will increase the number of problems. We have two mixed 1-9 tests this week with 50 problems in 3 minutes and 50 seconds.

short vowel blends: cha, clo, dru
long vowel blends: spri, sme
special sounds: sn in snap, spl in split, sw in sweet, ou in out, oo in book, str and ong in strong, sm and all in small, or in Lord, gr and ow in grow, ir and st in first, ur in turn
spell these words: no new words
We will practice these in class every day!
Social Sciences: We will continue our Christmas around the world.
Reading: Don't forget to read your books on Wednesday night and be ready for the test on Thursday.
Spelling: Beginning this week we will have 15 spelling words and 5 bonus words. We will have a spelling test every Friday. Students will write these words when I call them out. This week five bonus words will be added to the list. Students should learn the 15 spelling words first. For a challenge, they can also learn the five bonus words. All students will take the bonus portion of the test. For each bonus word spelled correctly, the student will get 1 extra point on the test. There is no penalty for spelling a bonus word incorrectly.

Bonus Words: choose, smooth, March, April, May (months of the year must begin with a capital letter to get credit)
Bible: We will have a Bible verse each week. Students will say the verse to me.

Handwriting: We will continue learning how to form the letters.
Creative Writing: Students will continue to practice writing complete sentences using capital letters at the beginning and periods at the end. I will introduce question marks this week. We will continue learning the parts of a sentence. We will be writing super sentences. All sentences should have these four parts:
Begin with a capital letter.
End with a punctuation mark.
Make sense.
Be written neatly.
They will write sentences with their spelling words.
