Math: This week we will continue chapter 8 - Place Value
Timed Tests: We will continue taking timed tests each week. The students are doing a great job. Continue practicing the facts listed below. We will continue to have a subtraction timed test on Tuesday and an addition timed test on Thursday.
For subtraction, we will have 20 problems in 4 minutes and we will be subtracting 3.
For addition, we will have complete 50 problems in 3 minutes.

Phonics: We will have a Phonics test each Friday. Students will be expected to write the following:
short vowel blends: scri, spla
long vowel blends: thra, spre, tho
special sounds: ed in looked, ear in spear, en in quicken, old in fold, ar in parts, st and est in fastest, sh and es in dishes, wh in white
spell these words: no new words
syllables: middle (2), chin (1), unbutton (3)
We will practice these in class every day!
Social Sciences: We will continue to learn about plants and animals this week.
Reading: Don't forget to read your books on Thursday night and be ready to test Friday. :)
Spelling: Beginning this week we will have 15 spelling words and 5 bonus words. We will have a spelling test every Friday. Students will write these words when I call them out. This week five bonus words will be added to the list. Students should learn the 15 spelling words first. For a challenge, they can also learn the five bonus words. All students will take the bonus portion of the test. For each bonus word spelled correctly, the student will get 1 extra point on the test. There is no penalty for spelling a bonus word incorrectly.

alone, awake, asleep, around, apart, alike, ago, arose, along, aside, afraid, amount, away, again, says
Bonus Words: apartment, about, accomplish, adapt, adore
Bible: We will have a Bible verse each week. Students will say the verse to me.
Bible Verse: "Take courage! It is I. Don't be afraid." Matthew 14:27b
Handwriting: We will continue learning how to form the letters. We are working on correct letter formation and line placement.
Creative Writing: Students will continue to practice writing complete sentences using capital letters at the beginning and periods at the end. I will introduce question marks this week. We will continue learning the parts of a sentence. We will be writing super sentences. All sentences should have these four parts:
Begin with a capital letter.
End with a punctuation mark.
Make sense.
Be written neatly.
They will write sentences with their spelling words, and write in their journals daily. We will write our animals reports and we will write about Valentine's Day.
