Math: This week we will take a Diagnostic Checkpoint and Test on Chapter 12- Regrouping with Addition and Subtraction. We will then head back to Chapter 9- Money (Quarters, Coins, Half-Dollar and Dollar).
Timed Tests: We will continue taking timed tests each week. We will have an addition test this week. We will also take a subtraction timed test this week.
For subtraction, we will have 20 problems in 5 minutes and we will be subtracting 6 and 7.
For addition, we will have complete 50 problems in 3 minutes.

Phonics: We will have a Phonics test each Friday. Students will be expected to write the following:
short vowel blends: no new blends
long vowel blends: no new blends
special sounds: un in unbutton, g in giant, ear in ear, a in banana, tch in patch, cl in clip
spell these words: fudge, running, chart, fork, honk, copper
syllables: no new syllables
prefixes: no new prefixes
We will practice these in class every day!
Social Sciences: We will begin a Unit on Rocks and Minerals
Reading: Don't forget to read your books each night!
Spelling: This week we will have 15 spelling words and 5 bonus words. We will have a spelling test every Friday. Students will write these words when I call them out. This week five bonus words will be added to the list. Students should learn the 15 spelling words first. For a challenge, they can also learn the five bonus words. All students will take the bonus portion of the test. For each bonus word spelled correctly, the student will get 1 extra point on the test. There is no penalty for spelling a bonus word incorrectly.
Spelling Words:
hoping, hopping, hoped, hopped, tapping, taping, liked, skipped, getting, baking, named, raking, saved, were, some
Bonus Words: rubbing, skipping, hugging, liking, baked
Bible: We will have a Bible verse each week. Students will say the verse to me.
Bible Verse: Psalm 23:1-3 “The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He guides me in the paths of righteousness for his name sake.”
Handwriting: We will practice writing words in our best handwriting.
Creative Writing: Students will continue to practice writing complete sentences using capital letters at the beginning and periods at the end. I will introduce question marks this week. We will continue learning the parts of a sentence. We will be writing super sentences. All sentences should have these four parts:
Begin with a capital letter.
End with a punctuation mark.
Make sense.
Be written neatly.
They will write sentences with their spelling words, and write in their journals daily. Each sentence should have a naming part and a telling part!
