Math: This week we test on chapter 9 - Money and begin chapter 10 - Measurement.
Timed Tests: We will continue taking timed tests each week. The students are doing a great job. Continue practicing the facts listed below. We will continue to have a subtraction timed test on Tuesday and an addition timed test on Thursday.
For those who have passed their addition tests and received a certificate, there will only be subtraction tests each week.
For subtraction, we have increased the time to 6 minutes and the number of problems to 50. We will continue to work with differences from 18. We will keep these parameters until students have mastered.
For addition, we will have complete 50 problems in 3 minutes.

Spelling: Beginning this week we will have 15 spelling words and 5 bonus words. We will have a spelling test every Friday. Students will write these words when I call them out. This week five bonus words will be added to the list. Students should learn the 15 spelling words first. For a challenge, they can also learn the five bonus words. All students will take the bonus portion of the test. For each bonus word spelled correctly, the student will get 1 extra point on the test. There is no penalty for spelling a bonus word incorrectly.

Bonus Words: trust, certain, place, twice, crust
Bible: We will have a Bible verse each week. Students will say the verse to me.

Continue reviewing Psalm 23:1-3. We will learn a new verse each week and by the end of the year the students will be able to recite the entire 23rd Psalm.
"The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. He makes me lie down in green pastures; he leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He guides me on the paths of righteousness for his name sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadows of death. I will fear no evil for you are with me. Your rod and staff, they comfort me" Psalm 23:1-4
Handwriting: We will practice writing words and sentences in our best handwriting.
Creative Writing: Students will continue to practice writing complete sentences using capital letters at the beginning and periods at the end. I will introduce question marks this week. We will continue learning the parts of a sentence. We will be writing super sentences. All sentences should have these four parts:
Begin with a capital letter.
End with a punctuation mark.
Make sense.
Be written neatly.
They will write sentences with their spelling words, and write in their journals daily. We will write friendly letters and begin Poetry.
