*Don't forget to turn in all RED folders by Monday. Student Fees and summer reading lists should have been sent to school on the first day. If you have not turned those in yet, please get it in by Monday.
* The first two days of first grade were both exciting and busy! I look forward to settling into our new routine this upcoming week.
*Please allow 24 hours for me to return emails. I will try and respond as soon as I am able. I will do my best to promptly respond. Please do not email during the day regarding a change in carpool/dismissal. It is best to call the Lower School office and they will call me over the intercom because it is likely that I will not be at my computer and could easily miss that email.
*Thank you for choosing SCPS for your little one! It's a GREAT day to be a RAIDER!
Monday through Thursday:
-study math facts (especially +1's)
-study Bible verse
-study spelling words
Genesis 1:1 "In the beginning, God created the heavens and the Earth."
We will learn about Creation. We will say the verse together daily. Students will recite it to me for their Bible grade on Friday.
We will have our first spelling test this week (FRIDAY) on the following words:
hat, cat, map, jam, pan, man, net, fell, pet, ten
We will go over, but NOT test on, the following high frequency words:
it, the, blue, jump, three, away, said, see, and, run
We will learn the following for the next two weeks and test on 8-26-16:
-students should know the 5 vowels, and the consonant sounds: s, l ,c/k, b, n, t. They also need to know the blends: na, li, te, su, ca, and nu.
We will take a PRACTICE timed test this week adding +1. Students will be given 20 problems to complete in 5 minutes. Be sure to practice math facts daily at home, too. It really helps!
1+0=1; 1+1=2; 1+2=3; 1+3=4; 1+4=5; 1+5=6; 1+6=7; 1+7=8; 1+8=9; 1+9=10
We will work on our grip, and also the formation and placement of the letters A-D.
Social Studies: We will begin entries in our writing journals. Our focus will be to begin sentences with a capital letter, end with punctuation, written neatly and making sure that they “make sense.”
We will be learning about school rules and jobs people do at school.
