Math: This week will continue chapter 2. It is all about addition and subtraction!

Timed Tests: We will continue taking timed tests each week. The students are doing a great job. Start practicing the fact listed below. Our +6 test will be this Tuesday and our +5 and +6 test will be on Thursday. Continue practicing all of the facts. Students will have four minutes to complete 20 problems.

Phonics: We will have a Phonics test each Friday. Students will be expected to write the following:
short vowel blends: ro, squi, ba, stru
long vowel blends: sle, pli
special sounds: no new special sounds
spell these words: glad, spin, that


We will practice these in class every day!

Social Sciences:  We will continue our unit on weather. We are will begin learning about seasons and how the earth rotates. 

Reading: We will continue reading groups this week.  We will take a comprehension test on Friday. Students will read a story in class and we will discuss it. On Thursday, the students will bring home their reading books. They should read the story (pages will be on a sticky note on the front of the book) and then ask an adult to ask them questions about what they read. Books should be returned to school on Friday. 

Spelling: Beginning this week we will have 12 spelling words and 5 bonus words. We will have a spelling test every Friday. Students will write these words when I call them out. This week five bonus words will be added to the list. Students should learn the 12 spelling words first. For a challenge, they can also learn the five bonus words. All students will take the bonus portion of the test. For each bonus word spelled correctly, the student will get 1 extra point on the test. There is no penalty for spelling a bonus word incorrectly.

Bible: We will continue our unit on Creation this week. We will continue making our Creation Book. We will have a Bible verse each week. Students will say the verse to me.

Bible Verse: "That it may go well with you and that you may enjoy a long life on Earth." Ephesians 6:3

Handwriting: We will continue learning how to form the letters. This week we will learn M, N, O, P

Creative Writing: Students will continue to practice writing complete sentences using capital letters at the beginning and periods at the end. I will introduce question marks this week. We will continue learning the parts of a sentence. We will be writing super sentences. All sentences should have these four parts:

Begin with a capital letter.
End with a punctuation mark.
Make sense.
Be written neatly.

They will write sentences with their spelling words, and write in their journals daily.
