Math: This week we continue chapter 9 - Money
Timed Tests: We will continue taking timed tests each week. The students are doing a great job. Continue practicing the facts listed below. We will continue to have a subtraction timed test on Tuesday and an addition timed test on Thursday.
For subtraction, we will increase the time to 6 minutes and the number of problems to 30. We will continue to work with differences from 18.
For addition, we will have complete 50 problems in 3 minutes.

Phonics: We will have a Phonics test each Friday. Students will be expected to write the following:
short vowel blends: no new blends
long vowel blends: no new blends
special sounds: un in unbutton, arr in carry, ould in should, u in push, ly in quickly, ou in country
spell these words: melted, start, child, when, bush, enjoy
syllables: no new syllables
prefixes: no new prefixes
We will practice these in class every day!
Social Sciences: We will finish our study of inventors and begin forces and magnets.
Reading: No comprehension test this week! :)
Spelling: Beginning this week we will have 15 spelling words and 5 bonus words. We will have a spelling test every Friday. Students will write these words when I call them out. This week five bonus words will be added to the list. Students should learn the 15 spelling words first. For a challenge, they can also learn the five bonus words. All students will take the bonus portion of the test. For each bonus word spelled correctly, the student will get 1 extra point on the test. There is no penalty for spelling a bonus word incorrectly.

Bible: We will have a Bible verse each week. Students will say the verse to me.
Bible Verse: "Even though I walk through the valley of the shadows of death, I will fear no evil for you are with me. You rod and staff, they comfort me." Psalm 23:4
Continue reviewing Psalm 23:1-3. We will learn a new verse each week and by the end of the year the students will be able to recite the entire 23rd Psalm.

Handwriting: We will practice writing words in our best handwriting.
Creative Writing: Students will continue to practice writing complete sentences using capital letters at the beginning and periods at the end. I will introduce question marks this week. We will continue learning the parts of a sentence. We will be writing super sentences. All sentences should have these four parts:
Begin with a capital letter.
End with a punctuation mark.
Be written neatly.
They will write sentences with their spelling words, and write in their journals daily. We will write friendly letters and begin Poetry.
