Math: This week we will review and finish chapter 1. This includes making 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10; patterns, number order to 12 and comparing numbers. Review these skills over the weekend, please.
Timed Tests: We will take two timed tests this week. The students are off to a great start. Start practicing the facts listed below. Students will have four minutes to complete 20 problems. We will be doing +2s and mixed 1s and 2s.

Phonics: We will have a Phonics test each Friday. Practice vowel sounds and blends:
short vowel blends: ru, si, tu, be, ha, ni
Social Sciences: We will finish up our unit on community and school helpers. We will then begin our unit on American Symbols.
Reading: We will continue reading groups this week. We will take a comprehension test on THURSDAY. Students will read a story in class and we will discuss it. The comprehension test will be based on the pages the children read on Wednesday in reading groups. They should read the story (pages will be on a sticky note on the front of the book) and then ask an adult to ask them questions about what they read. Books should be returned to school on Friday.Please do not take the sticky note off the book. We use the same sticky note all week to help save resources.
Spelling: We will have a spelling test every Friday. Students will write these words when I call them out. This week five bonus words will be added to the list. Students should learn the 10 spelling words first. For a challenge, they can also learn the five bonus words. All students will take the bonus portion of the test. For each bonus word spelled correctly, the student will get 1 extra point on the test. There is no penalty for spelling a bonus word incorrectly.

Bible: We will continue our unit on Creation this week. We will continue making our Creation Book. We will have a Bible verse each week. Students will say the verse to me.
Bible Verse: "Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right." Ephesians 6:1
Handwriting: We will continue learning how to form the letters. This week we will learn G, H, I, J.
Creative Writing: Students will practice writing complete sentences using capital letters at the beginning and periods at the end. We continue learning the parts of a sentence. They will write sentences with their spelling words, write in their journals daily, and write about Creation.
