Wednesday, April 12th: Class Egg Hunt-please send in 12 plastic, candy-filled (no chocolate) eggs by Tuesday. We will have an egg hunt following our afternoon resource. You are invited to come and watch and take pictures. We should begin around 1:10. There is no “party” for parents to attend, but students will be having a special snack during our morning snack time.

May 23rd-26th: ½ Days of School
Math: This week we will finish Chapter 12. We should be ready to test by Friday, March 24th. Regrouping is not an easy concept, but each student made strides in understanding it before we left for Spring Break!
Timed Tests: We will continue taking timed tests each week. The students are doing a great job. Continue practicing the facts listed below. We will take the subtraction test.
For subtraction, we will have 20 problems in 4 minutes and we will be subtracting 4's, then mixed 3’s and 4’s.
For addition, we will complete 50 problems in 3 minutes.

short vowel blends: chi, qua
long vowel blends: sho
special sounds: y in rainy, er in verse, sh in ship, ey in key, o in shovel
spell these words: match, crib, pork
syllables: no new syllables
Social Sciences: We will begin a new science unit. We will learn about rocks, minerals and soil this week. We will do a science experiment on keeping our ocean clean and happens when there is an oil spill.
Reading: Reading groups will continue this week.
Spelling: This week we will have 15 spelling words and 5 bonus words. Students will write these words when I call them out. This week five bonus words will be added to the list. Students should learn the 15 spelling words first. For a challenge, they can also learn the five bonus words. All students will take the bonus portion of the test. For each bonus word spelled correctly, the student will get 1 extra point on the test. There is no penalty for spelling a bonus word incorrectly.

Bible: We will have a Bible verse each week. Students will say the verse to me. This week we will also learn about Jesus and the Easter story.

Handwriting: We will practice writing words in our best handwriting.
Creative Writing: Students will continue to practice writing complete sentences using capital letters at the beginning and periods at the end. I will introduce question marks this week. We will continue learning the parts of a sentence. We will be writing super sentences. All sentences should have these four parts:
Begin with a capital letter.
End with a punctuation mark.
Make sense.
Be written neatly.
They will write sentences with their spelling words, and write in their journals daily.
