Special Opportunity: Students are learning about pets in Media. Students who want to share, may bring a picture of themselves with their pet to school on Wednesday, September 3rd. This is optional.

Math: This week will review and test on chapter 1. This includes making 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10; patterns, number order to 12 and comparing numbers. Review these skills over the weekend, please.
Timed Tests: We took our first two timed tests this past week. The students are off to a great start. Start practicing the fact listed below. Out three's test will be this Tuesday, September 2nd. Don't forget to review all of the facts. we will have a test on Thursday, September 4th with a mixture of one's, two's and three's. Phonics: We will have a Phonics test each Friday. Students will be expected to write the special sounds: o in go, st in stop, e in me, sh in ship, and fr in frog. We will practice these in class every day!
Social Sciences: We will complete out unit on schools, rules and citizenship. We will test later in the week.
Reading: We will continue reading groups this week. We will take a comprehension test on Friday. Students will read a story in class and we will discuss it. On Wednesday, the students will bring home their reading books. They should read the story (pages will be on a sticky note on the front of the book) and then ask an adult to ask them questions about what they read. Books should be returned to school on Friday.
Spelling: We will have a spelling test every Friday. Students will write these words when I call them out. This week five bonus words will be added to the list. Students should learn the 10 spelling words first. For a challenge, they can also learn the five bonus words. All students will take the bonus portion of the test. For each bonus word spelled correctly, the student will get 1 extra point on the test. There is no penalty for spelling a bonus word incorrectly.

Bible: We will continue our unit on Creation this week. We will continue making our Creation Book. We will have a Bible verse each week. Students will say the verse to me.

Handwriting: We will continue learning how to form the letters. This week we will learn G, H, I, J.
Creative Writing: Students will practice writing complete sentences using capital letters at the beginning and periods at the end. We continue learning the parts of a sentence. They will write sentences with their spelling words, write in their journals daily, and write about Creation.
