Friday, January 29th: Field Trip to Oatland Island from 10-12. Let me know if you plan to attend. Students returning to school will need to bring a sack lunch from home. Don’t forget to wear your blue field trip t-shirt!

Math: This week we will finish up chapter 6: Days of the Week and Months of the Year. We will also have a Diagnostic checkpoint and work toward taking the chapter test by Friday.
Timed Tests: We will continue taking timed tests each week. The students are doing a great job. Continue practicing the facts listed below. We will take an addition test and a subtraction test this week.
For subtraction, we will have 20 problems in 5 minutes and we will be subtracting 2.
For addition, we will have to complete 50 problems in 3 minutes and 40 seconds.

Social Sciences: We will begin a unit about plants and animals this week.
Reading: We will continue reading groups and take a reading comprehension test toward the end of the week.
Spelling: This week we will have 15 spelling words and 5 bonus words. We will have a spelling test every Friday. Students will write these words when I call them out. This week five bonus words will be added to the list. Students should learn the 15 spelling words first. For a challenge, they can also learn the five bonus words. All students will take the bonus portion of the test. For each bonus word spelled correctly, the student will get 1 extra point on the test. There is no penalty for spelling a bonus word incorrectly.

Bible: We will have a Bible verse each week. Students will say the verse to me.

Handwriting: We will continue learning how to form the letters. We have learned how to correctly form each letter and write it in D'Nealian. Please continue to work on handwriting each night.
Creative Writing: Students will continue to practice writing complete sentences using capital letters at the beginning and periods at the end. I will introduce question marks this week. We will continue learning the parts of a sentence. We will be writing super sentences. All sentences should have these four parts:
Begin with a capital letter.
End with a punctuation mark.
Make sense.
Be written neatly.
They will write sentences with their spelling words, and write in their journals daily. We will write about plants, and animals.
