Math: Chapter 6- Time
-Minutes; Understanding the Hour and Minute Hands; Telling and Writing Time to the Hour; Telling and Writing Time to the Half Hour
Timed Tests: We will continue taking timed tests each week. The students are doing a great job. Start practicing the facts listed below. Beginning this week will increase the number of problems. We have two mixed 1-9 tests this week with 50 problems in 3 Minutes and 50 Seconds.
We will also be starting subtraction timed tests. They will be introduced the same way addition tests were introduced.

Phonics: We will have a Phonics test each Friday. Students will be expected to write the following:
short vowel blends: plu, she, qui
long vowel blends: sna, cho
special sounds: ong in song, le in puddle, ing in swing, ink in sink, onk in honk, ou and ch in ouch, all in fall, ow in cow, ch and alk in chalk, oi in joint
spell these words: no new words
We will practice these in class every day!
Social Sciences: We will study plants and animals unit this week.
Reading: Don't forget to read your books on Thursday night and be ready for a test on Friday.
Spelling: This week we will have 15 spelling words and 5 bonus words. We will have a spelling test every Friday. Students will write these words when I call them out. This week five bonus words will be added to the list. Students should learn the 15 spelling words first. For a challenge, they can also learn the five bonus words. All students will take the bonus portion of the test. For each bonus word spelled correctly, the student will get 1 extra point on the test. There is no penalty for spelling a bonus word incorrectly.

Bible: We will have a Bible verse each week. Students will say the verse to me.

Handwriting: We will continue learning how to form the letters. This week we will learn T, U
Creative Writing: Students will continue to practice writing complete sentences using capital letters at the beginning and periods at the end. I will introduce question marks this week. We will continue learning the parts of a sentence. We will be writing super sentences. All sentences should have these four parts:
Begin with a capital letter.
End with a punctuation mark.
Make sense.
Be written neatly.
They will write sentences with their spelling words, and write in their journals daily. We will write about our break, and New Years.
