Tuesday, January 10th: Report Cards come home. Please sign and return in the yellow envelop provided. Students will then receive a nice copy to keep at home.
Friday, January 13th: Teacher Workday/Conference Day. No School for Lower School students. Conferences are not for all students. You will be contacted by me if a conference is needed with your child at this time.
Monday, January 16th: MLK Holiday- No School
Friday, January 20th: First Grade Field Trip to Oatland Island. Parents are encouraged to attend and then will be able to take their child after the field trip is over.
The cost for parents: $5. If you are planning on attending, please show up at Oatland Island at 10:00. Our tour is from 10-12.
If your child is LEAVING from Oatland Island, they don't need a lunch box.
If your child is RIDING BACK TO SCHOOL, they do need a lunch box. We will eat once we are back on campus.
The attire is our blue field trip t shirt, jeans, and tennis shoes. If it's cold, please have your child wear a jacket.
If you are planning on attending the field trip, please let me know. I don't need the $5, you will pay that at Oatland Island, I just like to know who will be attending.

Timed Tests: We will continue taking timed tests each week. The students are doing a great job. Start practicing the fact listed below. Beginning this week will increase the number of problems. We have two mixed 1-9 tests this week with 50 problems in three minutes and 45 seconds.

Spelling: This week we will have 15 spelling words and 5 bonus words. We will have a spelling test every Friday. Students will write these words when I call them out. This week five bonus words will be added to the list. Students should learn the 15 spelling words first. For a challenge, they can also learn the five bonus words. All students will take the bonus portion of the test. For each bonus word spelled correctly, the student will get 1 extra point on the test. There is no penalty for spelling a bonus word incorrectly.

Creative Writing: Students will continue to practice writing complete sentences using capital letters at the beginning and periods at the end. I will introduce question marks this week. We will continue learning the parts of a sentence. We will be writing super sentences. All sentences should have these four parts:
Begin with a capital letter.
End with a punctuation mark.
Make sense.
Be written neatly.
They will write sentences with their spelling words, and write in their journals daily. We will write about our break, and the New Year.
