Math: This week we will finish our chapter on Money (test Tuesday) and begin measurement. Please be sure your child is able to count sets of coins: ½ Dollar, Quarters, Dimes, Nickels, Pennies. They need to be able to identify them and count on.
Timed Tests: We will continue taking timed tests each week.
For subtraction, we will have 20 problems in 5 minutes and we will be subtracting 8.
For addition, we will have complete 50 problems in 3 minutes.

Social Sciences: We will be studying magnets.
Reading: We will continue Reading Groups.
Spelling: This week we will have 15 spelling words and 5 bonus words. We will have a spelling test every Friday. Students will write these words when I call them out. This week five bonus words will be added to the list. Students should learn the 15 spelling words first. For a challenge, they can also learn the five bonus words. All students will take the bonus portion of the test. For each bonus word spelled correctly, the student will get 1 extra point on the test. There is no penalty for spelling a bonus word incorrectly.

church, choose, chin, chest, bench, which, such, much, rich, patch, ditch, stitch, match, Mr., Mrs.
Bonus Words: lunch, catch, crunch, pitch, beach
Bible: We will have a Bible verse each week. Students will say the verse to me. We will continue our study of the life of David.
Bible Verse: Psalm 23:5 “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies, You anoint my head with oil; my cup over flows.”
Continue reviewing Psalm 23:1-4. We will learn a new verse each week and by the end of the year the students will be able to recite the entire 23rd Psalm.
We will be saying Psalm 23:1-6 very soon! You may begin practicing if you would like!
Psalm 23:1-6 “The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He guides me in the paths of righteousness for his name sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil for you are with me; your rod and staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies, you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”
Handwriting: We will practice writing words in our best handwriting.
Creative Writing: Students will continue to practice writing complete sentences using capital letters at the beginning and periods at the end. I will introduce question marks this week. We will continue learning the parts of a sentence. We will be writing super sentences. All sentences should have these four parts:
Begin with a capital letter.
End with a punctuation mark.
Make sense.
Be written neatly.
They will write sentences with their spelling words, and write in their journals daily. We will write friendly letters.
