Math: This week will begin chapter 3. It is all about addition strategies.
Timed Tests: We will continue taking timed tests each week. The students are doing a great job. Start practicing the fact listed below. Our +8's (we held off on it last week) test will be this Tuesday and our +9 test will be on Thursday. Continue practicing all of the facts.

Phonics: We will have a Phonics test each Friday. Students will be expected to write the following:
short vowel blends: to, thre, plu, dre
long vowel blends: mi, spa
special sounds: no new special sounds
spell these words: clap, rake, spot
We will practice these in class every day!
Social Sciences: We will begin a new unit.
Spelling: This week we will have 12 spelling words and 5 bonus words. We will have a spelling test every Friday. Students will write these words when I call them out. This week five bonus words will be added to the list. Students should learn the 12 spelling words first. For a challenge, they can also learn the five bonus words. All students will take the bonus portion of the test. For each bonus word spelled correctly, the student will get 1 extra point on the test. There is no penalty for spelling a bonus word incorrectly.

Handwriting: We will continue learning how to form the letters.
Creative Writing: Students will continue to practice writing complete sentences using capital letters at the beginning and periods at the end. I will introduce question marks this week. We will continue learning the parts of a sentence. We will be writing super sentences. All sentences should have these four parts:
Begin with a capital letter.
End with a punctuation mark.
Make sense.
Be written neatly.
They will write sentences with their spelling words, and write in their journals daily. We will write about Fall and Columbus Day.
Students should capitalize letters at the following times:

Homework (no homework day has been switched from Wednesday to Tuesday this week)
