Math: This week will continue working on chapter 2. We will work on Vertical Addition, Writing a Number Sentence, and then take a diagnostic checkpoint. We will then begin working on subraction.
Timed Tests: We will continue taking timed tests each week. The students are off to a great start. Start practicing the fact listed below. Our mixed + 2’s and + 3’s test will be Tuesday and our +4’s test will be on Thursday.. Continue practicing all of the facts. Students will have four minutes to complete 20 problems.

Phonics: We will have a Phonics test each Friday. Students will be expected to write the following:
short vowel blends: ste, tha, plu, sha
long vowel blends: fri, cli.
special sounds: gr in grin, th in thick, fl in flake, sm in smoke, pl in plane
We will practice these in class every day!
Social Sciences: We will start our unit on weather.
Reading: We will continue reading groups this week. We will take a comprehension test on Thursday. Students will read a story in class and we will discuss it. On Wednesday, the students will bring home their reading books. They should read the story (pages will be on a sticky note on the front of the book) and then ask an adult to ask them questions about what they read. Books should be returned to school each day.
Spelling: We will have a spelling test every Friday. Students will write these words when I call them out. This week five bonus words will be added to the list. Students should learn the 10 spelling words first. For a challenge, they can also learn the five bonus words. All students will take the bonus portion of the test. For each bonus word spelled correctly, the student will get 1 extra point on the test. There is no penalty for spelling a bonus word incorrectly.

Bible: We will continue our unit on Creation this week. We will have a Bible verse each week. Students will say the verse to me.
Bible Verse: Ephesians 6:1-2 “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this right. ‘Honor your father and mother’ – which is the first commandment with a promise.”
Handwriting: We will continue learning how to form the letters. This week we will learn K, L, M, N.
Creative Writing: Students will continue to practice writing complete sentences using capital letters at the beginning and periods at the end. I will introduce question marks this week. We will continue learning the parts of a sentence. We will be writing super sentences. All sentences should have these four parts:
Begin with a capital letter.
End with a punctuation mark.
Make sense.
Be written neatly.
They will write sentences with their spelling words, write in their journals daily, and write about Creation.
