Friday, October 7th: Homecoming
The After Care program is requesting donations for any old board games you may have at home that you don’t use any more. They would love to take them off of your hands for the children to enjoy after school.
Math: This week will continue chapter 2. We will work on Zero in Subtraction, Vertical Subtraction, Choosing an Operation, and we will have a diagnostic checkpoint this week.
Timed Tests: We will continue taking timed tests each week. The students are doing a great job. Start practicing the fact listed below. Our mixed 3’s and 4’s test will be Tuesday and our 5’s test will be on Thursday. Continue practicing all of the facts. Students will have four minutes to complete 20 problems.

Phonics: We will have a Phonics test each Friday. Students will be expected to write the following:
short vowel blends: gri, pre, ra
long vowel blends: thi, mo
special sounds: no new special sounds
spell these words: fat, this, swim
We will practice these in class every day!
Social Sciences: We will continue our unit on weather.
Reading: We will continue reading groups this week. We will take a comprehension test on Thursday. Students will read a story in class and we will discuss it. On Wednesday, the students will bring home their reading books. They should read the story (pages will be on a sticky note on the front of the book) and then ask an adult to ask them questions about what they read. Books should be returned to school.
Spelling: We will have a spelling test Friday. Students will write these words when I call them out. This week five bonus words will be added to the list. Students should learn the 10 spelling words first. For a challenge, they can also learn the five bonus words. All students will take the bonus portion of the test. For each bonus word spelled correctly, the student will get 1 extra point on the test. There is no penalty for spelling a bonus word incorrectly.

Bible: Rules
Bible Verse: Ephesians 6:3 “that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy a long life on Earth.”
Handwriting: We will continue learning how to form the letters.
Creative Writing: Students will continue to practice writing complete sentences using capital letters at the beginning and periods at the end. I will introduce question marks this week. We will continue learning the parts of a sentence. We will be writing super sentences. All sentences should have these four parts:
Begin with a capital letter.
End with a punctuation mark.
Make sense.
Be written neatly.
They will write sentences with their spelling words, and write in their journals daily.
