Math: This week will continue chapter 2. It is all about addition and subtraction!
Timed Tests: We will continue taking timed tests each week. The students are doing a great job. Start practicing the facts listed below. Our +6 test will be this Tuesday, September 22nd. Continue practicing all of the facts. Students will have four minutes to complete 20 problems.

Phonics: We will have a Phonics test each Friday. Students will be expected to write the following:
short vowel blends: ro, squi, ba, stru
long vowel blends: sle, pli
special sounds: no new special sounds

We will practice these in class every day!
Social Sciences: We will be learning about seasons, days and the Earth’s rotation.
Reading: We will continue reading groups this week. We will take a comprehension test on Friday. Students will read a story in class and we will discuss it.
Spelling: Beginning this week we will have 12 spelling words and 5 bonus words. We will have a spelling test every Friday. Students will write these words when I call them out. This week five bonus words will be added to the list. Students should learn the 12 spelling words first. For a challenge, they can also learn the five bonus words. All students will take the bonus portion of the test. For each bonus word spelled correctly, the student will get 1 extra point on the test. There is no penalty for spelling a bonus word incorrectly.

Creative Writing: Students will continue to practice writing complete sentences using capital letters at the beginning and periods at the end. I will introduce question marks this week. We will continue learning the parts of a sentence. We will be writing super sentences. All sentences should have these four parts:
Begin with a capital letter.
End with a punctuation mark.
Make sense.
Be written neatly.
They will write sentences with their spelling words, and write in their journals daily.
