Monday, January 30th: 100th Day of School! To celebrate we have the kids dress up like they are 100 years old. This is not required, but it is a lot of fun to dress up!

Math: This week we will continue working on Chapter 8: Expanded Form; Ways to Make Numbers; Use Objects; 1 More, 1 Less and 10 More, 10 Less; Comparing Numbers-Greater Than, Less Than and Equal To.
Timed Tests: We will continue taking timed tests each week. The students are doing a great job. For addition, we will have to complete 50 problems in 3 minutes and 30 seconds.

Phonics: We will have a Phonics test each Friday. Students will be expected to write the following:
short vowel blends: thra, snu
long vowel blends: scri, po, qua
special sounds: wh in white, gn in gnat, er in smaller, y in sleepy, en in golden
spell these words: no new words
syllables: peaches, fork, tomato
Social Sciences: We will begin a unit on animals this week: How Animals Eat their Food; Animals Grow and Change; and Animal Habitats.
Reading: We will continue reading groups and take a reading comprehension test toward the end of the week.
Spelling: This week we will have 15 spelling words and 5 bonus words. We will have a spelling test every Friday. Students will write these words when I call them out. Students should learn the 15 spelling words first. For a challenge, they can also learn the five bonus words. All students will take the bonus portion of the test. For each bonus word spelled correctly, the student will get 1 extra point on the test. There is no penalty for spelling a bonus word incorrectly.

Bible: We will have a Bible verse each week. Students will say the verse to me. We will learn about Jesus Feeding the 5000.
“Ephesians 4:32: “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as Christ God forgave you.”
Creative Writing: Students will continue to practice writing complete sentences using capital letters at the beginning and periods at the end. I will introduce question marks this week. We will continue learning the parts of a sentence. We will be writing super sentences. All sentences should have these four parts:
Begin with a capital letter.
End with a punctuation mark.
Make sense.
Be written neatly.
They will write sentences with their spelling words, and write in their journals daily. We will write about plants, and animals.
