Thursday, April 7th: Class pictures. Students MUST wear their school uniform. No N.U.T. cards allowed on this day.
April 11th-15th: Standardized Testing Week
Math: This week we will begin chapter 11 – Addition Strategies: Doubles; Doubles plus 1, Doubles minus 1; Adding 10; and Making 10 to add; Adding 3 numbers, and a Diagnostic Checkpoint.
Timed Tests: We will continue taking timed tests each week. The students are doing a great job. Continue practicing the facts listed below. We will continue to have a subtraction timed test on Tuesday and an addition timed test on Thursday.
For subtraction, we will have 20 problems in 5 minutes and we will be subtracting 6.
For addition, we will have complete 50 problems in 3 minutes.

Phonics: We will have a Phonics test each Friday. Students will be expected to write the following:
short vowel blends: no new blends
long vowel blends: no new blends

Social Sciences: We will be learning about landforms and continents.
Reading: We will continue with Reading Groups and take a comprehension test toward the end of the week.
Spelling: This week we will have 15 spelling words and 5 bonus words. We will have a spelling test Friday. Students will write these words when I call them out. This week five bonus words will be added to the list. Students should learn the 15 spelling words first. For a challenge, they can also learn the five bonus words. All students will take the bonus portion of the test. For each bonus word spelled correctly, the student will get 1 extra point on the test. There is no penalty for spelling a bonus word incorrectly.

Bible: We are learning about Hannah from I Samuel and the importance of prayer. We will have a Bible verse each week. Students will say the verse to me.
Bible Verse: Psalm 23:2 “He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside still waters.”
Handwriting: We will practice writing words in our best handwriting.
Creative Writing: Students will continue to practice writing complete sentences using capital letters at the beginning and periods at the end. I will introduce question marks this week. We will continue learning the parts of a sentence. We will be writing super sentences. All sentences should have these four parts:
Begin with a capital letter.
End with a punctuation mark.
Be written neatly.
Sentences should also have a naming part and a telling part (subject and predicate).
