Math: This week will begin working on chapter 4. It is all about subtraction strategies. We will have a diagnostic checkpoint this week.
Timed Tests: We will continue taking timed tests each week. The students are doing a great job. Start practicing the fact listed below. Beginning this week will increase the number of problems. We have two mixed 1-9 tests this week with 40 problems in four minutes

Phonics: We will have a Phonics test each Friday. Students will be expected to write the following:
short vowel blends: fre, ju, clu
long vowel blends: sha, twi
special sounds: er in verse, igh in night, kn in knot, oi in coin, oy in boy, ar in farm, oo in boot, ur in curl, fr and y in fry, ang in sang, br and ing in bring, ou in sound
spell these words: no new words
We will practice these in class every day!
Social Sciences: We will learn about Veteran's Day and American symbols.
Reading: Don't forget to read your books on Thursday night and be ready to test Friday! :)
Spelling: This week we will have 15 spelling words and 5 bonus words. We will have a spelling test every Friday. Students will write these words when I call them out. This week five bonus words will be added to the list. Students should learn the 15 spelling words first. For a challenge, they can also learn the five bonus words. All students will take the bonus portion of the test. For each bonus word spelled correctly, the students will get 1 extra point on the test. There is no penalty for spelling a bonus word incorrectly.

Bible: Review Josiah Read’s God’s Word
Bible Verse: Proverbs 3:6 “…in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.”
Handwriting: We will continue learning how to form the letters.
Creative Writing: Students will continue to practice writing complete sentences using capital letters at the beginning and periods at the end. I will introduce question marks this week. We will continue learning the parts of a sentence. We will be writing super sentences. All sentences should have these four parts:
Begin with a capital letter.
End with a punctuation mark.
Be written neatly.
They will write sentences with their spelling words, and write in their journals daily. We will write about Veteran's Day and make cards for the veterans..
