​Until further notice, 1st/2nd grade carpool will be at the WEEKS BUILDING which is across the street from the Akins' building. Please be in the RIGHT LANE for carpool so that you can easily pick up your child. Akins' parents are being asked to stay in the left lane to continue picking up at Akins.
 
November 21st-25th:  Thanksgiving Holidays. No School.
Friday, December 9th:  Save the Date:  our class will perform at chapel @ 8:45.
 
Math: This week continue chapter 5:  Symmetry; Slides, Flips, Turns; Diagnostic Checkpoint, Equal Parts; Halves.
 
Timed Tests: We will continue taking timed tests each week. The students are doing a great job. Start practicing the fact listed below. Beginning this week will increase the number of problems. We have two mixed 1-9 tests this week with 45 problems in four minutes.

spell these words: no new words
 
Social Sciences:  We will begin a Unit on Christmas Around the World
 
Reading: Don't forget to read your books on Wednesday night and be ready for the test on Thursday.
 
Spelling: This week we will have 15 spelling words and 5 bonus words. We will have a spelling test every Friday. Students will write these words when I call them out. This week five bonus words will be added to the list. Students should learn the 15 spelling words first. For a challenge, they can also learn the five bonus words. All students will take the bonus portion of the test. For each bonus word spelled correctly, the student will get 1 extra point on the test. There is no penalty for spelling a bonus word incorrectly.

Bible Verse:  Luke 2:7 “…and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.”
 
Handwriting: We will continue learning how to form the letters correctly.  This past week, we spent extra time reviewing lower case  ‘d’ and all letters that should have monkey tails. 
 
Creative Writing: Students will continue to practice writing complete sentences using capital letters at the beginning and periods at the end. I will introduce question marks this week. We will continue learning the parts of a sentence. We will be writing super sentences. All sentences should have these four parts:
 
Begin with a capital letter.
End with a punctuation mark.
Make sense.
Be written neatly.
 
They will write sentences with their spelling words, and write in their journals daily.

*If it is raining, we will go to Akins for dismissal.
