Wednesday, March 2nd: Dr. Seuss Day! If your child has a Dr. Seuss shirt or wants to dress like one of the characters, feel free to do so as we celebrate his birthday. They may also bring in their favorite Dr. Seuss book and we will read it and share. This is completely optional!
Friday, March 4th : First Grade field trip to see Mary Poppins play.
Uniforms and lunch from home are required for this day.

Math: This week we will continue to work on chapter 8. We will also have a Diagnostic Checkpoint.
Timed Tests: We will continue taking timed tests each week. The students are doing a great job. Continue practicing the facts listed below. We will take addition timed tests and a subtraction test, too.
For subtraction, we will have 20 problems in 5 minutes and we will be subtracting 5.
For addition, we will have complete 50 problems in 3 minutes.

Social Sciences: We will begin learning about inventors such as Thomas Edison and Benjamin Franklin.
Reading: Reading groups will continue this week.
Spelling: This week we will have 15 spelling words and 5 bonus words. Students will write these words when I call them out. This week five bonus words will be added to the list. Students should learn the 15 spelling words first. For a challenge, they can also learn the five bonus words. All students will take the bonus portion of the test. For each bonus word spelled correctly, the student will get 1 extra point on the test. There is no penalty for spelling a bonus word incorrectly.

Bible: We will have a Bible verse each week. Students will say the verse to me. This week we will also learn about Jesus and the Easter story.

Handwriting: We will practice writing words in our best handwriting.
Creative Writing: Students will continue to practice writing complete sentences using capital letters at the beginning and periods at the end. I will introduce question marks this week. We will continue learning the parts of a sentence. We will be writing super sentences. All sentences should have these four parts:
Begin with a capital letter.
End with a punctuation mark.
Make sense.
Be written neatly.
They will write sentences with their spelling words, and write in their journals daily. We will write about February, and some of our favorite things.
Homework:
Monday: Math sheet, study Bible verse, spelling words, phonics sounds and math facts
Tuesday: Math Sheet, study Bible verse, spelling words, phonics sounds, and math facts
Wednesday: No Written Homework night. Please study for tests on Thursday.
