Tuesday, January 26th: 100th Day of School. We will have many fun activities to do on this day. More information will be coming home soon!

Conferences are not mandatory on the upcoming conference day. I will be contacting you if a conference is needed at this time.
Math: We will continue working through Chapter 6- Time. We will have a Diagnostic Checkpoint and we will cover the following concepts: Ordering Events, Estimating Lengths of Time, and Using Data to Form a Schedule.
Timed Tests: We will continue taking timed tests each week. The students are doing a great job. Start practicing the facts listed below. This week we will have a subtraction timed test on Tuesday and an addition timed test on Thursday. We will take a practice addition test on Monday and Wednesday, too.
For subtraction, we will be completing 20 problems in 5 minutes and we will be subtracting 1.
For addition, we will have complete 50 problems in 3 minutes and 45 seconds..

Social Sciences: We will begin a unit on plants and animals.
Reading: We will have a reading comprehension test on Thursday this week.
Spelling: This week we will have 15 spelling words and 5 bonus words. Students will write these words when I call them out. This week five bonus words will be added to the list. Students should learn the 15 spelling words first. For a challenge, they can also learn the five bonus words. All students will take the bonus portion of the test. For each bonus word spelled correctly, the student will get 1 extra point on the test. There is no penalty for spelling a bonus word incorrectly.

Bible Verse: This week is a review week. We will not introduce a new verse and there will be no test.

Creative Writing: Students will continue to practice writing complete sentences using capital letters at the beginning and periods at the end. I will introduce question marks this week. We will continue learning the parts of a sentence. We will be writing super sentences. All sentences should have these four parts:
Begin with a capital letter.
End with a punctuation mark.
Make sense.
Be written neatly.
They will write sentences with their spelling words, and write in their journals daily. We will write about plants, animals, and Martin Luther King, Jr.
